It all went so fast. I even still had things I wanted to finish at the mission office. We first went to the early morning temple session and then went to the mission office one last tiime. Of course Sister Caldwell had my favorite piano music on- (it's her favorite too). The temple the evening before we left was the most beautiful I have ever seen it. There was mist in the air which helped make it so beautiful. Misty etherial white against a black sky. we then had the priviledge of having our breakfast in Brampton -at Flips- with Brother Sethi. (Flips is where the AP's used to always go for breakfast.) We promised Brother Sethi we would be back in August to be with him in going into the Temple. It will have been a year since he was baptized and he is really looking forward to that day. We were able to See Elders Walter and Strasbourg at the Sault St. Marie branch for Sunday morning sacrament meeting. they were both speaking. We will be in Elder Strasbourg's ward after we get settled into our new place. We learned much, and had much experience. We loved the Sisters and Elders and will miss them very much. We have so far been blessed by clear roads, which is a miracle, since there was a blizzard on either side of the country, and South as well. Many blessings during the mission and still. I hope to add more pictures to this site, as I really did not put as many as I would have liked to over the past 8 months. See you soon everyone in Albera, Love Sister and Elder StarkAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08939611327885950259noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099406699987161573.post-68120645690477970012012-12-31T12:36:00.001-08:002012-12-31T12:36:27.817-08:00CTMAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08939611327885950259noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099406699987161573.post-18264216650720591172012-12-24T06:39:00.001-08:002012-12-27T05:31:19.963-08:00Seniors Christmas Party<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">

18 of the Senior Missionareis gathered at the Employment Center to celebrate Christmas. We were happy to gather there, as you know spaces are limited when it gets near to Christmas. We had a really enjoyable evening of visiting and some videos of the live nativities which were done by church members in the area, and we had a family story by Elder and Sister Caldwell.</div>

At this rate I'll be home in no time. We still have green grass, it rained a few times over the past two weeks and I am ENJOYING it! What else is new? We have already had three Christmas dinners. The other senior missionary couple had us over for their Thanksgiving Turkey dinner as well, so at this point I am considering fasting three days per week! Either that or become seriously short of clothing that fits!</div>

Here is a picture of Elder Stark and myself around the packages. We've sent out two times already to all the different areas in the mission, and these next two weeks will be more packages out as we do Zone Conferences. We have transfers this week and two Zone conferences. The next week we have two zone conferences as well. We will be having the opportunity to share the workload with a service missionary who will be helping in the office. We will likely have a second service missionary soon. Well I hope you all are having as blessed of a Christmas season as we are here in the Canada Toronto Mission. The attached pictures are all at the office. It was Zone Leader Council and the Zone leaders were given the Santa Hats by the other office mission couple. the Zone leaders can wear the hats as they hand out Christmas packages to the missionaries. We love you all and wish you well, Sister and Elder Stark.</div>

In the one picture you can see the apartment from the road and over the lake, it is the second one in the background. We went for a walk, and I do believe we found the home of the wookchuck. Here is Elder Stark and myself walking across a pier, it is more needed in the spring than the fall, but it was fun to go for our last fall walk. This pier is across the small lake which is behind our apartment. My mom asked me what the name of the lake was and I did not know that the lake was large enough to have a name, we finally found out what the name of that lake was, Esker Lake. The above middle picture is the view of the lake from the road. The pier would be off to the right, across from the lake from the apartment.</div>

6 Months in the Mission Field</h2>
<br />
I really am enjoying having a fall season. Today was the first day that I actually put on a winter coat and winter boots. We saw a few snow flakes yesterday at about 10:00 at night, but the kind that melted as soon as they landed on the ground. There is still green grass outside and ther flowers are just now showing signs of dying due to cold weather. In Edmonton, especially when I was younger, I remember the fall season lasting all of about 3 weeks, and then winter. It is no wonder I never really liked fall, it was just a short anouncement that winter was coming.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">P-day at the office. </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
We weathered "Frankenstorm" rather well. We only had weather advisory for severe wind. Any of you who may have been watching the news may have heard there was one casualty in Toronto, a woman was hit by a sign which blew off a large pole, she did not survive. That was the day that many of our missionaries were driving in the wee hours of the morning because it was transfer day. There were a vew precarious driving conditions, but every one was fine and transfer day went just fine.<br />
<br />
Elder Stark and myself have had a few new and interresting duties added to our list. We had to go and do some things for apartments, because now we have no housing co-ordinator. We are at the point where we are considering to ask Mission President if we can just live at the office, for all the time we spend in the apartment assigned to us, it really does seem like a waste. The picture is supposed to be a P-day but we were still doing office duties. At least we eat well! I have never before had an entire lobster. They were on sale- and really inexpensive! I can never get that in Edmonton, so that day we ate lobster in the office.<br />

We went to a live performance at the Stratford Film Festival. I kind of wanted to do something cultural while we were here. It was an unusual play called, "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" and the actors and actresses were the peanuts! It was so funny, as the announcement at the begining of the play was "Wah wa wa wah-wah-wah-" and ect. then "brrrrr-rrrring" We all knew that they were requesting us to turn off our cell phones, but if you remember in the cartoon "Peanuts"adults were never heard, only blurbed. So here are a couple of pictures of our trip that day. We were with two other senior missionary couples.<br />

I guess you can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy. This restaurant impressed Edler Stark so much that he wanted to take several pictures of it. Not only was there excellent breakfast food, but at a price even ther missionaries can enjoy! The restaurant is in Kitchener, if you ever wish to stop by.</div>

What a lot of colours they go through!<br />

The geese are taking test flights and those fussy headed babies, which turned into awkward teenagers now fly and look just like their parents. I'm lookin forward to the different colours in fall here, as in Alberta we mostly just get yellow leaves. This transfer also occurred at a month where we had Zone meetings, this gets us behind in our office duties because we have to spend at least two days per week on the road for three consequetive weeks. We do vehicle placement to assist with missionary travel and we each do have a part in Zone training, we have four different places in the province for one set of Zones. These are a few pictures taken on transfer day.<br />

It was another working P-day, we were trabelling in the province and had vehicles to fix and vehicle paperwork to deliver. The sister missionaries and elder Stark and myslef were trying to find a place to eat lunch, the entire downtown was blocked off, there were outdoor vendors, and music. One of the sister missionaries video taped this, just to hear her contagious laugh will make your day! Have a great day! Love Sister and Elder Stark.</span><br />

I apologize, the video clip never did downlaod properly, I attempted twice. I guess all of our friends will just have to visit us when we return to see it!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08939611327885950259noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099406699987161573.post-15082345576668614532012-07-26T09:51:00.001-07:002012-09-03T18:46:38.956-07:00Chinguacousy Park in Brampton<div class="separator" style="border: currentColor; clear: both; text-align: center;">

It takes about three minutes by car, it is on the other side of the shopping center from our apartment. In this lovely area are geese, ducks, walking paths, a small bunny hill for snowskiing on in the winter and music and carnivals etc in the summer. I have had opportunity to go through the park during special events on two occasions and give out pass a long cards. These pictures were taken on one evening Elder Stark and I spent there on date night. I was enthralled with the geese and watched them for over two hours, it seemed like hardly any time at all. We were sitting on a bench and the family of geese were about six feet in front of us. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The two adult geese take turns being on the look-out for danger, as you can see there is always one watching while the other goes down for a bit of grass. They look after their young carefully.<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Kaof4KnQ9iY/UBF5ba-MpLI/AAAAAAAAAMs/8NdvoW16H_A/s1600/anitas+treasures+021.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" sda="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Kaof4KnQ9iY/UBF5ba-MpLI/AAAAAAAAAMs/8NdvoW16H_A/s200/anitas+treasures+021.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
The gooslings in these two families of geese were a little older, as can be seen by their size</td></tr>

We have a variety of Senior missionaries serving in the Canada Toronto Mission. They serve as teachers of Institute classes, employment workers, Public Affairs, full time Temple workers, Mission Office workers and of course member and leadership support. All are called by God and are invalualbe to the Mission Purpose, that of inviting others to come to God by having Faith in Christ, being baptized, recieving the spirit and enduring to the end. Senior missionaries know a little bit about enduring to the end, as many have been serving the Lord for years. This knowledge, experience and example can be of great benefit to many at what ever stage they may be at in their walk with the Lord. </div>

Elder Stark has to take care of all of the vehicles, this includes doing inspections, he also during zone conferences ensures all of the fluids are topped up. We certainly had some fun this summer doing vehicle inspections in plus 33 to plus 36 degree weather. I wasn't complaining, it is better than in negative 33 degrees. We have "black boxes" which the missionaries have to log in to when they drive, several of those kept falling off when the heat was extreme, the glue would soften, and then Elder Stark would have to go reinstall them.<br />

<h2>
The Mission Office</h2>
<strong>Elder Stark is in charge of 80 vehicles</strong>, give or take-as he is also responsible for selling off the older ones, and at times the numbers can vary. The job is actually more demanding than it would seem. The cars are tracked according to drivers, drivers ability, mileage, maintenance schedules etc. As well as reconciliatin of each cars expenses eand month. The paperwork is ...well it definitely keeps him very busy. He must also certify any missionary who is allowed to drive a mission vehicle, and that involves initial certification and ongoing monitoring and training.<br />

<br />
<strong>When Sister Stark started she had to reorganize the entire storage area</strong>. As time went along of course you can imagine that things can get a little out of order, so I thought it would make my job easier in the long run just to reorginize everything. It was work, but it left me with the time to do other things.<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BaYrUiToncQ/UE60fWf9O3I/AAAAAAAAAPo/IZji1n92COs/s1600/Photo163.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BaYrUiToncQ/UE60fWf9O3I/AAAAAAAAAPo/IZji1n92COs/s320/Photo163.jpg" width="320" /></a>Sister Stark is the Mission Nurse, that has involved a lot of extra work as the Mission had changed policies just as I was arriving, and I was assisting help the transition, as well as being involved in attemtpting to implement solutions. Sister Stark also ensures that the mail gets to the missionaries, ensures that their supplies don't run out! I take supply orders from the missionaries and order the supplies. I also do the history books, and the monthly Newsletter,and referrals.<br />
Although we have been busy, we have been able to assist in some teaching and Elder Stark was able to Baptize an invesitgator for the first time as a missionary. We have been both excited to be able to share our faith. As we were new to our missionary work in the mission office we found it took a lot of time to get everything done. We hope to be able to do more teaching as often as time allows. In the local ward where we attend we have duties and responsibilities there also. Sister Stark has been blessed and challenged with playing piano during the Relief Society meeting. Visiting teaching and Home teaching and being part of correlation Ward Council along with assisting with any other acts of service such as assisting in the prepararion of Baptismal servies etc. In August we had Baptismal Serviecs three Sundays in a row. These are of course all a pleasure to be a part of. We love you all and hope that gives you all a bit of an idea why we may not have been contacting you all as much as we would love to. We have been and are very busy.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08939611327885950259noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099406699987161573.post-546742199302176632012-06-22T16:41:00.001-07:002012-09-03T18:44:19.469-07:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We Have had Severe Heat Warning for yesterday and two days before it- 36 degrees</h2>
I am adding this note on July 13th, 2012. We have had more above 30 degrees days than under 30 degrees, here if it's 29 degrees, it's a cool day.<br />

We had wild turkeys, deer, a racoon, a porcupine living nearby, and rolling hills and landscape that was so unbelievable. The only downside was the 40 to 50 minute commute. It was much shorter in non-rush hour traffic. The reason we lived in this home temporarily was because the apartment in which we were to live was still being lived in by the couple we were going to replace. There was a three week overlap, so Elder Stark and I could be trained.<br />

When we arrived at the Canada Toronto Mission I was quite worn out. all of the excitement and driving left me sick -quite literally. I had some sort of stomach flu, was in pain most of the day before we arrived and up half the night in the small room. Well, when we pulled up that fateful Monday morning, I said to elder Stark, I don't want to go in. His responce? It's kind of hard to serve a mission that way. Luckily the Mission President and his wife, the AP's (Assistance to the President) and the office staff we of course very welcoming and understanging of my fatigue, after lunch at the Mission Home Elder Stark and I went to our beautiful "new" home in the country. This picture was taken on another day, lunch at the office.</div>

All of the many connected areas around the actual city of Toronto are the GTA, or Greater Toronto Area. Toronto is like one big downtown, at least from what I've seen so far, and the areas around act more like the "suburbs"-although Brampton was a city in its own right at one time, with a downtown of its own etc. The freeway from Brampton into Toronto is a 14 to 16 lane freeway. The first time I was on that it was 9:00 at night, so not rush hour, and yet nearly two accidents happened right in front of us, one on the way there, and one on the way back. I can see why the insurance is so high here. There are a lot of accidents, and yet no snow to blame!(-yet). I asked Elder Stark if we ever have to do that drive in the winter if we could leave at 5:00 am, and get to where ever we were going a bit early rather than do that road in traffic in the winter. Some one told us that that path can usually take 2 hours in rush hour traffic, it took us 30 minutes in non-rush hour traffic. Here are some photos, although photos cannot grasp it.<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">They call Brampton "Flowertown"</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The reason it is called "flower town" is because I guess they used to sell incredible amounts of floweers from Brampton. They still do, but not as large a share of the market as they once did. The name still stuck and so there are many street corners which have lots of flowers, apartments etc. They all do an excellent job of the very large flower beds throughout the city.<br />

Winter Quarters is the place where the early Saints escaped to after much persecution. They decided they needed to spend the winter here before travelling on to the promised safe area west. Here much suffering and death occurred due to severe winter conditions and lack of supplies, the early Saints were driven from their homes so quickly they didn't bring much with them. They didn't have time to grab and take anything with them as the mobs threatened their lives and destroyed their property. Here on the lot directly adjoining this Temple is a graveyard where many children and adults were burried.<br />
